The Bitterroot Trail

Welcome to the Bitterroot Trail

This paved 45 mile trail between Missoula and Hamilton Montana provides access to many friendly communities as well as connections to biking and hiking opportunities. See the map below for details about some of the many opportunities to enjoy the beautiful Bitterroot Valley. If the map does not appear below, please click this link to open a new page for the map. While enjoying the Bitterroot Trail, please remember that while the trail is within the highway right-of-way it is bordered by private property some of which is fenced and posted but some of which is open. When unsure of the boundary, please remain on the trail, being respectful of property rights.

The map has been separated into layers to allow greater flexibility to meet your needs. The box in the upper left corner of the map header will display the key with the list of layers that can be switched on and off using the check boxes. Each layer contains location and information about the various features and amenities. Use the expansion box in the upper right corner of the map header to view the map in a full window with similar access to the layers and ability to zoom for greater detail of the side trails and points of interest.

A new layer has been added to post known significant maintenance activities to help you plan your trips along the trail. This layer is "Highway 93 and/or Bitterroot Trail Maintenance". We will update this layer as we receive information from Montana Department of Transportation. For additional information or updates please visit the MDT website.
